Crucial Self Care Must-do’s

It’s very easy, and natural for us, to give others more attention and to give ourselves less. To be better people, it should be the other way round. We can give others more attention and better concentration, when we have received the care that we need.

Here are a few tips to get yourself on the Self Care map, and walking along the journey. (Which by the way.. Is FUN!)

1. Sleep

You’ve heard it many times, I’m fully aware, but having enough sleep is crucial to our bodies being able to recover each night, and to be able to function best. My husband tries to argue with me about sleep, because I tell him often that he doesn’t get enough sleep.. So I understand if you feel the same. 


Scientists have actually proven that our human bodies need at least 7-9 hours sleep per night for a healthy body of sleep. 

2. A Balanced Diet.

I want to first off say…to listen to your own body. Your body will tell you what you need. Listen, carefully. For me? My body tells me twice a month that I need to eat a bunch of chocolate/sweet treats. You might be the same, or your body may tell you that you need something salty, carbohydrates, anything. I want to tell you, and reassure you that this is ok. Please listen to your body. It’s not your body telling you that you need to put on weight, or just munch your way through your problems, it’s telling you that your body needs it. (There is a huge difference between want and need!)

3. Spend time with family & friends

I just want to clarify something here… meeting up with people who you call ‘friends’ who aren’t actually your friends.. I do NOT mean these people. I mean people who you are completely comfortable with, people who know you and love you for yourself.

4. Pamper yourself

I don’t mean you need to sit in a bath, with chocolate, cucumber on your eyes, etc, etc. You can do that though.. I love doing that, just not with the cucumber haha, I’d end up eating it because I love it so much! 

Whether it’s using hand cream, painting your nails, having a bath, putting some makeup on, baking yourself a sweet good, or going for a walk, it is important to take care of yourself and do what you want to do.

Self care doesn’t have to be taking care of your body (although it should be a big part of it), but it can be allowing you to do whatever makes you feel happy.

5. Start your day with something positive.

This does not mean that you sleep in for an extra 5 minutes. This means that when you get up, the first thing you do is something positive and uplifting, and something you enjoy doing. If this is a good 20 minute shower, then so be it. If this means you have breakfast, then so be it. It can be whatever you want it to be. Make sure it’s a positive start.

  1. My self care is to drink enough water. I’m currently aiming for 3 litres a day. Some days I get there, others I don’t. Aiming for that though means I’m drinking well. Also exercise is my ‘go to’ for self care. Gives me time to myself and to forget everything apart from what I’m doing. Keeps me fit also.

      I find it hard to do, but I believe in you!! I have actually been trying to drink and eat a little better daily, and feel like I’m slowly improving.
      Totally! Keeping fit is such a self care option for many, and it makes perfect sense! It also helps your mental health too- added bonus!
